Jeremy litigated for a large law firm in New York City for decades before joining Russo & Gould in October 2023. His experience includes some of the largest corporate acquisition disputes and securities class actions His work has encompassed both pre-acquisition and post-closing litigations and arbitrations relating to alleged breaches of acquisition agreements and resulting indemnification claims.
In addition, Jeremy has prosecuted and defended breach of contract and fraud claims, breach of fiduciary duty lawsuits against present and former corporate directors, officers and employees and theft of trade secret claims. He has focused on untangling complex financial and accounting issues and views understanding the parties' economic motivations as the best way to understand the positions of his client and adversary and develop strategies based on these economics. These strategies apply to both settlement and trial.
Jeremy has substantial experience in bankruptcy litigation, both as a proponent of plan confirmations and defending clients against fraudulent transfer and preference claims. Jeremy has participated in Surrogates' Court proceedings; defended governmental agencies against contractual and constitutional claims; and taken part in real estate litigation.
While serving on the Mediation Panels of the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, Jeremy has mediated over 50 cases. These cases related to breach of contract, civil rights, statutory claims and a RICO claim, among other claims. Jeremy promotes mediation at an early stage of the case.
Jeremy currently serves on the State Courts of Superior Jurisdiction Committee of the New York City Bar Association. He previously served on that Committee and chaired its Legislation Subcommittee. He has also been a member of the City Bar's New York City Affairs Committee; its Litigation Committee; its Government Ethics Committee; and its Securities Litigation Committee. He testified before the New York City Council on behalf of the City Bar regarding pending legislation. Jeremy has been a Moot Court Judge at the City Bar and has been a recipient of the Legal Aid Society's Pro Bono Publico Award.
David Gould, with the assistance of his mentor Joseph Fegan, successfully defended a damages-only traumatic brain injury (TBI) case in the Supreme Court Suffolk County before Judge George Nolan. Christine Cirola v. Karen Johnson, Index No.: 617768-21. A total of 11 witnesses were called over a span of two weeks. The plaintiff''s attorney argued that his client sustained "a mild TBI" as a result of the accident and he requested that the jury award his client $1,000,000 in compensation.
Representing a national self-storage company in a Philadelphia lawsuit, Russo & Gould''s Chuck Stokes forced a Plaintiff to withdraw her claims against the client, and obtained court approval of the dismissal of the client just minutes before the jury panel was brought into the courtroom.
