An Erie County Jury on Tuesday Acquitted a Man Accused of Shooting at a Buffalo Police Officer in 2022 During a Foot Pursuit
An Erie County jury on Tuesday acquitted a man accused of shooting at a Buffalo police officer in 2022 during a foot pursuit.
The jury acquitted Shariff L. Shadwick, 39, of all counts he faced - first-degree attempted murder, first-degree attempted assault and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon – after almost 2½ hours of deliberations, said Florina Altshiler, one of Shadwick's defense attorneys.
About 2:20 a.m. July 24, 2022, Buffalo police responded to a report of threats near East North and Orange streets. A man ran from officers and, during a foot chase, fired shots at Officer Ryan Hofschneider, who fired back at the man.
Altshiler, who represented Shadwick along with attorney Robert Goldstein, said she believes jurors saw issues in the police officer's testimony and had concerns aboutthe police investigation.
